The Washington drape filigree stem aladdin lamps are an interesting member of the Washington drape lamp series. At least two different molds were used in their production. The fact can be verified by the difference of the leaf pattern that is present where the stem meets the base of the lamp. The leafs are not only different in shape but also in their thickness. Also some of the filigree stem lamps have threads for the burner molded into the glass, while others have metal threads fused into it.
The fused threads are believed to be a carry over from the earlier round base Washington drape lamps of 1939. This being the case those found with the fused metal threads would be the earlier production lamps. These are also the lamps that have the thinner leaf design on the stem which would tend to verify that the thin leaf design was characteristic of the earlier production lamps as well. |
